A single twin gun 120mm Bofors dual purpose gun is located on the bow. These turrets were reused from the Holland class.
A Mark 13 Mod 4 GMLS single arm launcher was mounted on the rear superstructure. The below deck magazine holds 40 missiles.
The Mark 13 GMLS launches the Standard medium range surface to air missiles. All 40 missiles in the magazine were SM-1MR.
Close range air defense was provided by the octuple launcher for the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile. The launcher was located between the main gun and the bridge. Additional missiles were stored inside.
A single 30mm Goalkeeper close-in weapon system provides last ditch protection from inbound anti-ship missiles.
Two quad Mk 141 launchers are mounted amidships for the Harpoon subsonic sea skimming anti-ship missile.
Two Mark 32 triple tube launchers for Mk 46 Mod 5 NEARTIP lightweight torpedoes are mounted amidships.
The two vessels of the Tromp class were replaced by the De Zeven Provinciën-class air defense frigates. A total of four new frigates have been built, including two also named Tromp and De Ruyter.
The 120mm Bofors gun turrets of the Tromp class came from the Holland class and were refurbished before installation.
